End of Life and Bereavement Care

We understand this is an incredibly difficult time. Whether your loved one is nearing the end of life or you are coming to terms with the death of someone close to you, our teams at WUTH are here - to guide, support and care for you with compassion, dignity and respect.

This section of our website will help you understand what to expect, what steps to take, and where to find the right support - both before and after the death of someone you love.

Our Bereavement Care Strategy

At WUTH, we are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate, and person-centred care to every patient approaching the end of life - and to every family navigating bereavement.

Our Bereavement Care Strategy sets out how we deliver on this commitment across every ward and department. It includes:

  • Our Making Memories initiative - creating lasting keepsakes for bereaved families
  • Advance Care Planning - supporting patients and families to plan for the future
  • Spiritual and chaplaincy care - for all faiths and none
  • Bereavement support for families, carers, and bereaved children
  • Staff education and training in end-of-life care
  • Partnership working with Wirral's specialist palliative care organisations
