The Bereavement Service
The Trust’s Bereavement Services team is committed to supporting families and loved ones following the death of a patient in our hospital.
Our compassionate staff understand the importance of receiving the right care and guidance during such a difficult and emotional time. They provide practical support and advice, including information on how to register a death, begin funeral arrangements, and access bereavement support services and other helpful resources.
When a patient passes away, ward staff will provide the patient’s loved ones with our ‘In Your Loss’ booklet. This booklet contains important information, including contact details for the Bereavement Services team.
The booklet is intended to offer practical help and guidance to support relatives and loved ones during the early days of bereavement, and to assist with the arrangements that need to be made.
Please do not hesitate to ask if anything is unclear. Our staff are always happy to help and provide support. If you have any religious, cultural, or other specific needs, please let us know. This includes requests for urgent certification where there are religious or cultural requirements.
Staff should advise families to contact the Bereavement Services Team by telephone. The team is available Monday to Friday, between 10:00am and 4:00pm, and can be contacted on 0151 604 7346.
When contacting the Bereavement Service Team, the Next of Kin will need to provide the details below:
- The full name of the deceased person.
- Next of Kin Name, Address, contact Number and Relationship to the deceased.
- Information relating to Funeral Director being used.
- Information relating to deceased having a Burial or Cremation.
Families are kindly asked not to attend the Bereavement Services office unless advised to do so by a member of the Bereavement Services team.
