About Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (WUTH)
WUTH comprises three main hospital sites: Arrowe Park, Clatterbridge Hospital, and Wirral Women’s and Children’s Hospital (located on the Arrowe Park site). The trust specialises in women’s and children’s health, as well as the treatment of cancer, infection, neurological, and gastrointestinal diseases.

Research Focus
In 2024, most research activity was concentrated in Critical Care, Neonates, Stroke, and Surgery, primarily based at the acute Arrowe Park site. We have 45 members of staff with a GCP certificate.

Expansion Plans
WUTH is eager to expand its portfolio of non-acute commercial studies at the Wirral Research and Innovation Centre located on the Clatterbridge site, which also houses the Diagnostic Centre.

Regional Partnerships
The trust is a partner organisation within the Regional Research Delivery Network for the North West and serves as one of the spoke sites for the Commercial Regional Delivery Centre for Cheshire & Merseyside, hosted by The University Hospitals of Liverpool Group. It also plays a key role in the Wirral Research Collaborative, working closely with local primary care services and the Wirral Community Health Trust.
