The PARTIAL study is a research study looking at the long term impact on function of the kidney between two types of surgery for kidney cancer.
The study will compare two different types of surgery:
- Removal of the whole kidney, known as total nephrectomy, or
- Removal of part of the kidney, known as partial nephrectomy.
Which surgery will I have?
You will be randomly allocated to one of the two surgical treatments.
Who can take part?
Eligible patients will be approached by their doctor at their clinic appointment.

Antibiotics before bowel surgery
About Colo-pro2
Patients who have surgery on their bowel can develop infections in their wound.
This study is comparing two ways of giving antibiotics before bowel surgery, to see if one way is better than another at preventing infections after the surgery.
Who can take part?
Eligible patients may be approached prior to their surgery or on the day of their surgery.
Antibiotic treatment for abdomen infections
About
The EXTEND study is looking at the antibiotic treatment of patients treated for serious abdominal infections.
The study aims to see if a fixed 28 day duration of antibiotics is overall better for treating patients with serious abdominal infections than shorter courses of antibiotics as decided by a doctor.
Who can take part?
Eligible patients may be approached while they are an inpatient on the ward.
Prostate cancer
Evaluation of Lymphadenectomy In High Risk Prostate Cancer Surgery
About
This study is looking at two different types of surgery for patients with high-risk localised prostate cancer.
If you take part, you will be randomised (toss of a coin) into either receiving:
- Removal of the prostate with removal of lymph nodes
- Removal of the prostate without removal of lymph nodes

You will be approached by your doctor or research nurse during your pre-operative appointments.
