Children's Pre-school Physiotherapy (0-4yrs)
Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust has a team of specialist pre-school age physiotherapists within the Community Paediatrics Team for infants and young children aged 0-4 years. This team aims to support the physical development of young children.
Paediatric physiotherapists have additional experience, knowledge and understanding of child development and childhood conditions.
We offer assessment and treatment of a range of conditions impacting development in young children such as;
- Torticollis/plagiocephaly- a common infant condition affecting neck movement and head shape
- Developmental delay- when children are not meeting their physical milestones in the expected timeframe
- Gait variations – in-toeing, tip toeing, foot posture variations
Orthopaedic conditions. - Treatment and developmental support for children with neurological conditions- Cerebral Palsy, prematurity or genetic conditions working closely with the child’s family and/or caregivers.
Alongside this we also offer:
- Advise in education settings- Support and advice to nurseries and pre-school settings working with the children we treat for long-term conditions.
- Hydrotherapy- Physiotherapy input for children with long-term conditions in a heated pool setting.
- Specialist equipment provision- To support children with mobility difficulties develop gross motor skills as well as support children with postural difficulties (on an assessment basis).
