Children's Physiotherapy Service

The Children’s Physiotherapy Team use their specialist skill set and expertise around child development and childhood disabilities to support children, young people and their families with physical needs presenting from neurological, genetic, developmental and orthopaedic conditions.

Our services work with children in a variety of settings including nursery’s and school, clinics, inpatient wards and patients own homes. We aim to provide support and intervention for children between the ages of 0-19yrs who live and are registered with a GP within the Wirral Merseyside area.

The Physiotherapy service aims to:

  • Help a child/young person achieve maximal gross motor potential by providing specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice.
  • Provide assessment and support to parents/carers of children who present with normal variants in the development of gross motor skills.
  • Provide post-surgery management and rehabilitation for children and young people.
  • Provide specialist assessment of equipment for mobility, standing and sleeping posture.

 

Meet the Teams

In order to support children, young people and their families with accessing the Physiotherapy support, our service is divided into 3 teams as follows;

Pre-School Team- Provide services for children between the ages of 0 to 4 years in the community and clinic setting who require developmental support.

Schools Team- Provide services for children between the ages of 5-19 years in the community and clinic setting as well as working closely with mainstream and specialist education services.

Orthopaedic Team- Provide musculoskeletal/Orthopaedic advice for children between the ages of 5-19 years of age in a clinic setting at Arrowe Park Hospital.
