Car Seating for Children with Additional Needs

The Children's EY's OT Team are not able to offer NHS funding for car seating, car safety harness's or safety equipment however specialist support and funding is available through a number of charities and private services and the Children's EY's OT team are able to offer advice depending on the child's needs. Car seating for children with postural difficulties.

If your child has postural difficulties secondary to an underlying medical condition then ensuring your child is comfortable and supported in a commercial car seat can be difficult. Children's EY's OT's can offer advice and support with identifying the best car seat for you and your child as well as offer support with charitable funding applications. Car seating for children with learning needs or challenging behaviours

For those children with learning or behavioural concerns secondary to an underlying or emerging condition, keeping that child safe in a car seat can be a challenge for a lot of families. Often these children break free of traditional car seating restraints which places them and the other occupants of the car at risk of injury, however there are a number of services to help.

Crelling Harnesses- Crelling Harnesses are a family based company that cover the UK, offering a full range of seatbelts and harnesses for children and adults with special needs, designed to offer postural support or in the case of learning difficulties and challenging behaviour, a certain degree of restraint to keep the occupants safe. 

Windmill special needs- Windmill are a private company that specialise in car seat safety and can offer free assessments as well as a range of products for those families in need of advice in this area. 

In-Car Safety- In-Car Safety are a national company that offer a number of car seating options including safety supports for children with additional needs as well as advice in person or over the phone.

Lazarehab- Lazarehab are a UK based company that offer specialist car seating products either online, over the phone or through an in person assessment. 

Car seat funding

Whilst the Wirral University Teaching Hospital are not able to fund specialist car seating and accessories, there are a number of national charities and services that can offer support.

Newlife- A Large charity who offer funding support for children with additional needs and their families and have supported a number of families with specialist car seat funding. 

The Boparan Charitable Trust- Boparan trust are a national charity that offer means tested financial support for families looking to purchase specialist equipment such as car seating.
