Children's Occupational Therapy Service

As Occupational Therapists, we provide advice and intervention where needed, for children who have functional difficulties with self-care, classroom activities and leisure with the aim to support them in taking part in everyday activities and achieving their full potential.

Our services work with children in a variety of settings including nursery’s and school, clinics, inpatient wards and patients own homes. We aim to provide support and intervention for children between the ages of 0-19yrs who live and are registered with a GP within the Wirral Merseyside area.

An Occupational Therapist can assess and support in a number of areas including:

  • Self-care
  • Play/leisure
  • Home Adaptations
  • Upper limb function and activity
  • Seating, bathing, sleeping and postural management
  • Access to education settings
  • Manual Handling
  • Gross and fine motor skill Testing
  • Child Development
  • Sensory Advice and Strategies

Meet the Teams

In order to support children, young people and their families with accessing Occupational Therapy support, our service is divided into 4 teams as follows;

Children’s Neonatal- Provide inpatient services at Arrowe Park Hospital for children born prematurely who have been identified as having ongoing Occupational Therapy needs from birth.

Early Years Team- Provide services for children between the ages of 0 to 4 years in the community setting who require developmental support.

Children’s with Disabilities Team- Provide services for children with long term disabilities between the ages of 5-19 years in the community setting.

DCD Team- Provide gross and fine motor assessments and treatment for school aged children between 5 to 16 years of age.
