Wirral maternity services meet national safety standards
Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has met all national maternity safety standards as part of the NHS Resolution Maternity Incentive Scheme (MIS), recognising the Trust’s continued commitment to providing safe care for women and babies.
The scheme is a national programme designed to support NHS organisations to improve maternity safety by meeting a set of safety actions. These focus on areas such as clinical training, learning from incidents, and ensuring the right processes are in place to deliver safe, high-quality care.
By completing all required safety actions for the seventh year of the scheme, the Trust has once again demonstrated that these standards are in place across its maternity services.
Every year, thousands of families receive care through Wirral’s maternity services and this result reflects the work of multidisciplinary teams who provide care before, during and after the birth of babies, often in complex and high-pressure environments.
Janelle Holmes, Chief Executive said: “We are pleased to have met all national maternity safety standards for the seventh year. This reflects the continued dedication of our teams in providing safe, compassionate care for women, babies and their families.
“While this is a positive result, we remain focused on continuous improvement across all our services. We know that maintaining and improving safety requires ongoing learning, strong teamwork and listening to the experiences of the people we care for.”
The Maternity Incentive Scheme forms part of a national approach to improving maternity safety and reducing harm. The Trust continues to work closely with partners across Cheshire and Merseyside to share learning and strengthen services.
As the national programme moves into its next phase, the Trust will continue to build on this work to further improve care for local families.
