Statement on Critical Incident
Statement on Critical Incident - posted at 14:50 am on 29th October
“Wirral University Teaching Hospital remains in a Critical Incident due to an issue in our Sterile Services Department affecting surgical instruments.
“We are very sorry that this situation has caused concern for some of our patients waiting for surgery. We fully understand how worrying and frustrating this is and are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore services.
“Patient safety remains our top priority. We have robust processes in place to assess and prioritise patients according to clinical urgency, and we continue to carry out some urgent and cancer-related surgery where it is safe to do so.
“All patients whose procedures have been postponed have been contacted directly and will be contacted again as soon as possible with new dates and plans for their surgery.
“A detailed recovery plan is underway, and we are now beginning a phased restoration of surgical services. We continue to work closely with regional partners to access additional capacity while we resolve the issue.
“We remain extremely grateful to our staff, partners and patients for their continued patience and understanding while we work to return to normal operations.”
