Liverpool memorabilia business helps raise funds for neonatal care

A Liverpool man who turned his life around through a love of football memorabilia is now giving back in a big way, raising tens of thousands of pounds to support premature babies at Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH).

Rob O’Brien, from Liverpool, experienced a difficult period in his life struggling with his mental health. At his lowest point, he turned to a lifelong passion, collecting Liverpool FC memorabilia, as a source of hope and focus.

Now, 18 and a half years later, Rob has not only rebuilt his life, but is using his journey to make a difference to others.

What began as a personal hobby has grown into a successful business, Exclusive Private Signings, and more importantly, a platform to support charitable causes close to his heart.

“I’ve always been passionate about memorabilia,” said Rob. “But once the business began to grow, I realised I could use it to help causes that really matter, like the Neonatal Unit at Arrowe Park and other charities that mean a lot to me.”

Rob built strong connections with Liverpool legends such as Jan Molby and Bruce Grobbelaar and current Liverpool FC stars, helping him develop a respected portfolio of signed memorabilia.

Through exclusive signings and fundraising auctions, Rob has raised significant funds for WUTH Charity’s Children’s Fund, which is helping to refurbish and expand the Neonatal Unit at Arrowe Park Hospital.

Rob said: “These players do a lot behind the scenes that people don’t always see.

“Alisson Becker, for example, stayed behind after a signing to autograph extra pairs of gloves specifically for charities. He’s a genuinely amazing person. I think it’s important people know how much the players care.”

Funds raised are helping to provide additional vital equipment and improve the environment for babies and their families during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

Rob said: “Having been in such a dark place myself, I know how much a second chance can mean.

“Supporting WUTH Charity is my way of ensuring something positive came from my struggles. Knowing what we’re doing is helping families, that means everything.”

Rob’s business has become more than just a way to connect fans with their footballing heroes, it has built a community grounded in generosity, resilience and shared values.

“I’ve always treated people how I’d want to be treated,” he said. “It’s not about ego, it’s about doing the right thing.”

He also paid tribute to Jan Molby and Jan’s wife, Mandy, for their continued support. The couple host an annual Winter Ball to raise funds for WUTH Charity, with Rob’s donated memorabilia regularly featured in their charity auctions.

Rob added: “Jan and Mandy have been fantastic.

“Their dedication to helping others is inspiring, and I’m honoured to support them and call them friends.”

Phil Crawford, Community and Events Fundraiser at WUTH Charity, said: “Rob’s generosity has had an incredible impact. The money raised is helping to enhance care for some of our most vulnerable patients. His commitment to giving back is truly inspiring and we’re so grateful for all he’s done.”

Janelle Holmes, Chief Executive at Wirral University Teaching Hospital, said: “All the support that Rob gives to WUTH Charity is making a real difference. We would like to thank him for his continued support, which is helping us provide the very best care to our youngest patients and their families.”
