Wirral residents reminded to use NHS 111 online during bank holiday weekend

Wirral residents are being reminded to use NHS 111 online if they need non-emergency medical advice over the August Bank Holiday (Saturday 23 August to Monday 25 August).

Using the right service will help people get the care they need quickly and keep emergency departments free for those who are most seriously ill or injured.

Emergency departments are expected to be very busy over the Bank Holiday and people are asked to only attend A&E for serious or life-threatening emergencies.

Where to go for help:

  • Pharmacy: minor illnesses, headaches, stomach upsets, bites and stings
  • GP: persistent symptoms, long-term conditions, chronic pain, new prescriptions
  • NHS 111: if you feel unwell, unsure where to go, anxious, or need urgent advice
  • Urgent Treatment Centre/Walk-in Centre: breaks, sprains, cuts, grazes, x-rays, fevers, rashes
  • A&E/999: life-threatening emergencies only, such as chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe breathing difficulties, heavy bleeding, seizures, or choking

NHS 111 online works in the same way as the phone service. It can provide advice, arrange a call back from a clinician, and book an appointment in A&E if required.

Dr Ranjeev Mehra, Interim Medical Director said: “Bank holidays are always a busy time for health services. We are asking Wirral residents to use NHS 111 online as their first point of contact for non-urgent health needs. By planning ahead and using the right service, you will be helping to keep emergency care available for those who need it most.”
