A new temporary entrance will open for patients walking into the Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre at Arrowe Park Hospital

From Tuesday 8th July, the entrance door to the Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre will be located to the left of the Arrowe Park site behind the eye department, opposite the staff accommodation block. The new entrance is in place temporarily while work is underway to create a new urgent and emergency care facility at the hospital.

Patients will be able to access both the Urgent Treatment Centre and Emergency Department at this entrance. New signage will be in place to help identify where the new entrance is located and people will be on site to direct patients.

Members of the public requiring access to the Urgent Treatment Centre or the Emergency Department are advised to park in Car Park A, at the top left of the site. For those using the drop-off zone at the front of the hospital, signage will be in place to direct people to the temporary entrance.

People are advised to only attend the Emergency Department if they have an emergency.

The Urgent Treatment Centre should be used for other minor illnesses and injuries including fever and general infections, earache or sinus pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, mild abdominal pain or stomach ache, skin rashes or infections emergency contraception and advice, minor burns and scalds, cuts, grazes and minor wounds, sprains and strains and back, neck or joint pain.

The new urgent and emergency care facility is expected to be completed next year.

Janelle Holmes, Chief Executive at Wirral University Teaching Hospital, said: “All the services are running as normal while the temporary entrance is in place.

“We would like to thank all visitors for their patience while we continue to develop the new facility. Once completed, the facility will offer an enhanced experience for our patients and will help us transform urgent care in Wirral.”

For people who need assistance but do not require urgent or emergency care, please contact NHS 111, visit a pharmacy or a GP.
