Temporary A&E entrance now open at Arrowe Park Hospital

A new temporary entrance is now open for patients walking into the Emergency Department of Arrowe Park Hospital.

Patients will now enter the Emergency Department via a doorway slightly to the right of the previous entrance and closer to the main reception of the hospital. New signage will help patients to identify where the new entrance is.

The new entrance is in place temporarily while work is underway to create a new £28 million emergency and urgent care facility.

Early enablement works have been completed and the project has now moved on to the development phase. New ambulance bays have been installed at the side of the building and roads on site have been reconfigured.

Hayley Kendall, Chief Operating Officer at Wirral University Teaching Hospital, said: “We would like to thank all visitors for their patience while the work has been underway.

“We want to advise patients walking into our Emergency Department that they will enter through a different door. This will be a temporary entrance while the new urgent and emergency care facility is being developed.

“The Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre remain open throughout the works. All the normal hospital services are open to patients and we have plans in place to minimise the impact on patients attending the hospital.”

The £28 million programme will transform urgent care on the Wirral and will include a complete redevelopment of the current Emergency Department at Arrowe Park Hospital, run by Wirral University Teaching Hospital and the Urgent Treatment Centre, run by Wirral Community Health and Care Trust (WCHC).
