Year 4 Student Doctors (Liverpool)
In the University of Liverpool's MBChB Year 4 curriculum, students experience more specialized and challenging clinical placements, including mental health, neurology, and specialized areas of paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and oncology. They also undertake a nationally recognized placement in palliative care and a 4-week elective, often abroad.
Year 4 has eight 4-week placements:
- General Practice B.
- Medicine C: Geriatric Medicine, Renal & Rheumatology.
- Medicine D: Palliative Care, Oncology & Haemato-oncology.
- Obstetrics & Gynaecology B and Paediatrics B.
- Psychiatry A (including Child & Adolescent Psychiatry).
- Surgery C: Paediatric Head & Neck (ENT), Adult Head & Neck (OMFS), Ophthalmology and Plastic Surgery.
- Elective (takes place after assessments for progression). A 4-week elective placement which allows students to pursue specific interests
Y4 students only attend WUTH for Medicine C and Surgery C (Ophthalmology) placements.
