Reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome SID’s or Cot Death
Sadly, each year this affects a number of families. However, there is research that shows you can reduce the chances of SID's or Cot Death happening.
To reduce the chance families, should follow the key advice for baby sleep
- Put babies on their BACK for every sleep - DO NOT lay your baby down on his/her front when he/she is going to sleep - lay them on their back with feet at the bottom of the cot.
- In a CLEAR, FLAT SLEEP SPACE - keep the cot clear
- NEVER sleep with your baby on a sofa or armchair.
- Keep them SMOKE FREE day and night
- Do not overwrap or overdress your baby when he/she goes to sleep, but keep them room warm instead. Recommended room temperature is 16-20 Degrees
- If your baby is ill, contact your doctor without delay.
Some parents choose to share a bed with their baby.
Be aware - you should not share a bed with your baby if:
- you have recently drunk any alcohol
- you or your partner smoke
- you have taken any drugs
- you have taken any medication that make you feel sleepy or less aware such as strong pain-relief, methadone
- you are excessively tired
- If your baby was born prematurely or very small
