WUTH Charity launches ‘Big 7Tea’ to celebrate NHS turning 70
WUTH Charity, the charity of Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is asking the public to raise a cuppa in celebration of the health services 70th birthday.
The NHS ‘Big 7Tea’ will be a chance for people across the Wirral to come together and toast 70 glorious years of the NHS on Thursday 5th July and throughout the summer months.
This is an opportunity for the public to host their very own tea party and invite friends, family and work colleagues along to mark this commemorative occasion as well as raise funds to help support the vital work taking place at one of the region’s biggest and busiest hospitals.
Over the last 70 years, the NHS has transformed the health and wellbeing if the nation and has become the envy of the world. Helping behind the scenes are more than 250 dedicated NHS charities, including WUTH Charity.
The NHS has touched us all in some way and the ‘Big 7Tea’ celebration is a chance to say thank you.
Thousands of cups of tea are enjoyed in NHS hospitals locally, every day. The nation’s favourite drink brings us all together as it breaks down social boundaries and is often a symbol of comfort and community.
Victoria Burrows, Head of Fundraising for WUTH Charity said:
“We are thrilled to bring our great national pastime and great National Health Service together to raise vital funds to further enhance patient care here at Wirral hospitals.
“Tea brings us all together, so why not host a tea party of your own? This could be a street party, a party in your local village hall or even your staff room at work.
“We’d love to hear about your ‘Big 7Tea’ event, so don’t forget to tell us all about it.”
In recent years WUTH Charity has funded medical equipment and projects that help patients access the best possible care when they need it most. We hope the NHS Big 7Tea will raise awareness of the vital work of our local NHS charity and let the public know how to support us, for instance by making a donation or offering to volunteer.
Gaynor Westray is Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. She said:
“We cannot think of a better way to toast our health service and to celebrate our wonderful staff than with a cup of tea. This is a really special and important anniversary for the NHS as it gives us a chance to recognise the great work taking place day in, day out.
“Any money that is raised and donated to WUTH Charity will make such a difference as we are always so grateful for the continued support of the local community we serve.
“I would therefore like to invite as many people as possible to join us in marking this 70th anniversary of the NHS.”
To host a ‘Big 7Tea’ celebration, a special resource pack has been made available full of downloadable posters, bunting and selfie props.
