Self care

Sore throat? Tickly cough? Hangover? Cold or Flu?

The best choice to treat very minor illnesses and injuries is self-care.

Reduce your risk of spreading illness by:

  • Using a tissue for coughs and sneezes
  • Disposing of tissues quickly – in the toilet ideally
  • Regularly washing hands with soap and warm water
  • If you are infectious keep out of contact with others until 48 hours after symptoms have stopped

Prepare for illness by visiting your local pharmacy and stocking up on essential remedies and advice, and also ensure you drink plenty of fluids. Find out what should be in your medicine cabinet at home.

If you’re feeling unwell or perhaps you’re unsure about how you feel, simply call 111.

NHS 111 is there for any health related question you may have. You can also find further information on the nhs.uk/staywell website.

Self care is the best choice to treat minor illnesses and injuries. Lots of common illnesses and injuries can be treated at home simply with over-the-counter medicines and plenty of rest.
