Vascular Surgery

From April 2014, all of the major surgery for vascular will be done at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

This has been done to help improve outcomes from major vascular surgery and means that we will be able to treat patients from the Wirral, Chester and Warrington areas on one site: the South Mersey Arterial (SMArt) Centre. This reflects a similar change that has already occurred north of the River Mersey (LiVES – Liverpool Vascular and Endovascular Service) and is on-going throughout the UK.

We will continue to offer clinic appointments, investigations and day case treatment locally on the Wirral. We will also still be available to deal with urgent situations at Arrowe Park Hospital, when required.

There will be a high quality, Consultant delivered service based at the Countess of Chester Hospital where we will carry out all major operations and look after urgent and emergency patients. This will genuinely benefit patients from all 3 geographical areas, at the expense of having to travel to the SMArt Centre for surgery.
