Urology is a surgical specialty caring for various ailments affecting kidneys, ureter, bladder, prostate and male reproductive organs.

The Urology team consists of six consultants, one Associate Specialist and one Staff Grade. They are supported by Two Clinical Nurse Specialists and four Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

We have clinics at Arrowe Park, Clatterbridge and Victoria Central Hospitals and they carry out surgery at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge.

The department cares for all aspects of urological conditions.

LUTS Clinic

Men and women with any problems related to passing urine (referred to as Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms) are seen in this clinic. They have an assessment by a nurse specialist and have a flow test, bladder scan. They are given advice or commenced on treatment or referred to Consultants for further management.

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) Clinics

Men with erectile dysfunction are seen in this clinic by a nurse specialist. After assessment they are started on treatment or referred to a Consultant if the problem is complex.

One stop Hematuria Clinic

Urologists in this clinic comprehensively assess patients with any bleed in their urine.

Raised Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) clinic

Men who have raised PSA can be referred to this clinic. A urologist will assess the patient and offer a range of tests and investigations.

Nurse Specialists Clinics

We provide well established and well supported nurse led clinics who deliver:

  • urodynamic clinic
  • trial removal of catheter clinic 
  • intravesical treatment clinic (for patients with bladder cancer or interstitial cystitis)
Joint Uro-oncology Clinic

This service offers an excellent opportunity for patients to meet both surgeons (urologist) and radio/chemotherapy doctors (oncologist) at the same time.

This ensures the patients are given evidence based; balanced information and opportunities to ask questions in what can be a stressful time in their life.

Stone Services

The majority of these treatments are provided as a day case procedures. We provide state of art treatment of urinary tract stones.
