Students on placement may borrow 5 items.

What can I borrow?
Books, videos, DVDs and CDs are available for loan.

How long can I borrow items for?
Most books are loaned for 4 weeks.
Some books such as examination books and popular books are loaned for 1 week.

What if I want to renew my items?
You can renew items in person, by telephone or by e-mail, up to a maximum of three times, provided no other user has requested the items you have on loan.
When your item has been renewed the maximum number of times, it must be physically returned to the library.  An item can then be re-issued to you when it has been seen by library staff.
You may not renew an item which has been reserved by another user. If you fail to return a reserved item on a ‘Standard Loan’ of 4 weeks within 10 days of its’ due date, you will be charged £10.00. If you fail to return an item on a ‘7 day Loan’ within 5 days of its’ due date, you will be charged £10.00. This policy helps us to manage our stock and is beneficial to all library users.

What if I am late returning my library items?
Emails and letters are sent out to chase any overdue items. If an item is 6 weeks overdue, any further loans will be stopped. If an item is 8 weeks overdue, you will be billed for the replacement cost of the book.

Will I have to pay a fine?
Yes, you will be charged a fine if you return any items late. Currently, the charges are:
Standard loans: 5p a day per item (up to a maximum of £3.00)
One week loans: 50p a day per item (up to a maximum of £3.00)
Fines will be charged from the first day that the item is overdue. If you owe more than £10.00 in fines, any further loans will be stopped. If you have any questions, please ask library staff.

What if I want to reserve an item?
If you find an item you want on the Library Catalogue but it is out on loan, ask the library staff to place a reservation for you, or reserve it yourself using the Library Catalogue.  Once the reservation is made, the person who has the book will be sent a recall notice asking them to return it on its' due date.  We will let you know when the book is ready for you to collect.  If you receive a recall notice asking you to return a book for another reader to use, please return it promptly.

What if my circumstances change?
Please let us know immediately if you change any of the following: Name, home address, department, employment status (i.e. if you become a permanent member of staff or extend your fixed term contract).
