Duration: 2 days (08:45-16:00)

 

Aim:

For all Clinical Support Workers (CSW) working in Wirral University Teaching Hospital to attend this course which includes all elements of the 6 C’s; Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage & Commitment which ensure that the CSW is equipped to provide safe patient care. This course is a required element of the national Care Certificate. 

 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. To provide a competency based framework for the CSW to develop fundamental caring skills including Infection Prevention & Control, patient hygiene, elimination needs, nutrition/hydration, care of the dying patient, patient safety, pressure ulcer prevention, health promotion and patient assessment
  2. To underpin the clinical skills with theoretical knowledge
  3. To support the CSW in the development of his/her fundamental clinical skills in a safe and competent manner.
  4. To provide the CSW with an introduction to relevant Trust policies
  5. To introduce the standards of the national Care Certificate (if not received within the corporate induction programme).

  • Infection Prevention and Control (including swab collection)
  • Patient Hygiene (including Oral Hygiene)
  • Continence
  • Elimination and Speciment Collection
  • Urinalysis
  • Hydration and Fluid Balance
  • Acute Kidney Injury
  • Nutrition
  • End of Life Care
  • Patient Safety (Including Dementia, Human Factors & Complaints)
  • Patient Asessment
  • Practical Observation Measurement
  • Pressure Ulcer Prevention
  • Smoking Cessation
