If you are a patient of our Cardiology Service, you may have been referred to us by your GP or you may have come through our Emergency Department
Common heart problems include angina, myocardial infarction, heart failure and arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation or bradycardia. We also treat patients for hypertension, cardiomyopathies, acute coronary syndromes, valve disease and many other conditions.
Our service comprises five consultant cardiologists an associate specialist, a staff grade doctor and junior medical staff.
They are supported by an advanced nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialists and cardiac physiologists to provide expert services to inpatients, daycase and outpatients.
The dedicated cardiology inpatient service includes a six bed Coronary Care Unit, 12 heart failure beds, an 11 bed Heart Assessment Unit and 31 general cardiology beds. These beds are all located at Arrowe Park Hospital.
A dedicated and newly refurbished Cardiac Catheter Lab is co-located on the third floor at Arrowe Park Hospital. Over 1,200 diagnostic cardiac catheters are performed on site each year. Permanent pacemaker implantation and follow up has taken place at the Arrowe Park site since 1994. A full non-invasive Cardiac Testing Service is provided, offering diagnostics including transthoracic echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, trans-oesophageal and 3D echocardiography and tilt testing. A direct access CT Angiography Service is available on site.
Close links to Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital ensure patients needing complex devices, imaging and percutaneous cardiac intervention (PCI) are referred promptly.
Outpatient services include a Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic and clinics for worsening chest pain, as well as general and speciality cardiology clinics based at Arrowe Park Hospital and in the Community Outreach Clinic at St Catherine’s Health Centre.
