Infection Prevention and Control
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is everybody’s business within our hospitals. We have a strong commitment and dedication to protect our patients, visitors and staff from avoidable infection.
It is the responsibility of us all to prevent and control infection. This can be done by following some basic IPC principles.
Hand hygiene remains at the top of the list to help prevent the spread of infection.
All visitors to the hospital are reminded of the importance of cleaning their hands. Whilst it is important that you wash your hands with soap and water when they are dirty, cleaning them with alcohol gel on entering and exiting a clinical area will help to prevent the spread of germs during your visit. Alcohol stations can be located at the entrances to all clinical areas.
Our staff are expected to follow the ‘5 Moments for Hand Hygiene’. We encourage staff to challenge their peers if they notice hand hygiene has not been performed.
